Antique tramp art picture frame, late Victorian, c.1885–1900. Constructed from layered chip-carved cigar box wood in the classic sawtooth/chevron pattern across multiple receding tiers. Original backing, original slotted hardware, and original jute hanging cord all intact.
Pictured inside is a contemporary Sanderson fabric specifically chosen for the frame.
The frame when acquired contained its original photograph of a seated woman in period dress, consistent with the frame's dating - and a remarkable accompanying keepsake: a "Flowers of Siloam" pressed flower card, made from plants collected at the Pool of Siloam in Jerusalem. Labelled in five languages including English, French, German, Hebrew, and Cyrillic, with a dove silhouette. These were sold to Christian pilgrims during the height of Holy Land tourism in the late 19th century and are seldom found with their original frame. Both of these come with the frame, as well as the Sanderson fabric and the original glass.
Condition: Age-consistent wear throughout, minor losses to a few notched points, strong structural integrity.
Dimensions: 30cm wide x 38cm tall
