The Rev. Frederick George Lee, D.C.L. was a priest in the Church of England and a religious author.  He compiled two volumes of factual stories regarding the supernatural world.

The Reverend writes that many Christians living in a modern, materialized world no longer believe in the supernatural.

In Chapter 5, he writes "The World, which has been defined as ""the rebellion of the reason against God,"" scorns to accept miracles and mysteries, and boldly denies the existence of both angels and fallen spirits."  He points out that the supernatural world exists to lead men to God.  As God will show himself in unintelligible ways that transcend the natural world, be it through miracles, dreams, exorcisms or ghosts.

Our favorite chapter, "Witchcraft and Necromancy," describes exactly how unsuspecting souls were recruited by the Devil.

The Devil offered promises of "riches and sensual pleasures" and the "power of working evil and mischief upon the lives, limbs and fortunes of neighbors or chosen subjects."  This pact was sealed with blood and once the wizards and witches were under the control of the Devil for years, their souls were completely lost, without any chance of redemption and "everlasting property of the Evil One."

One particular account within the chapter of "Witchcraft and Necromancy" regards two witches, Mary Phillips and Ellinor Shaw.  These two women, known to be witches, were arrested and placed in jail in 1705 to await trial for the death and bewitching of the wife of Robert Wise and a 4-year-old child, Elizabeth Gorham.

While in jail, the women were overheard talking about how they killed Mrs. Wise by "roasting her effiges in wax, sticking it full of pinns, and till it was all wasted, and all of this she affirm'd was done the same night Mrs. Wised dyed in a sad and languished condition."

Other chapters include stories and anecdotes regarding dreams, premonitions, miracles and apparitions.

Originally, this book was released in two separate volumes.  We are lucky to have found this version with both volumes in one book!

This two volume version was originally published in England by G.W. Carleton and Co.  However, this edition was reprinted in the United States by John F. Trow and Sons, New York ca. 1875.

This book is incredibly scarce and it is unlikely we will find another. We are extremely honored and excited to be able to offer this book to our customers.
