The French artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard had a perfect understanding of femininity. In his paintings, girlhood is all movement and lightness, pink silk and tumbling roses, laughter caught at its most unguarded… There is a delicate softness to his world. This dress lives in his canvases. The blush of the fabric, the delicacy of the hand-smocked bodice, the frills that frame the silhouette are all stitched in his spirit. This is an attire for Rococo princesses twirling in gardens to their hearts’ delight.
